PS20-1687 DISCUSSION OF RECENT FIRE SAFETY EVENTS The Redondo Beach Fire Department is a full-service agency that provides fire suppression, emergency medical, code enforcement and marine safety services. Our mission is "Serving the community by protecting life, property, and the environment through prevention, education and emergency services." The Redondo Beach Fire Department provides its services from three (3) Fire Stations strategically located within the City boundaries. Additionally, Fire Station #3 serves as headquarters for our Harbor Patrol unit providing services to all boaters within the Harbor.

PS20-1688 DISCUSSION OF RECENT EVENTS IN THE CITY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE The City Prosecutor prosecutes misdemeanor offenses of State law or City ordinances that occur in the City of Redondo Beach; provides information to citizens about prosecution and procedure; files criminal complaints in the Superior Court, Southwest District; represents the People of the State of California in motions, pretrial hearings, court and jury trials; writs and appeals; and advises and trains law enforcement. In addition, the City Prosecutor's Office coordinates the following specialized Community Prosecution Programs: The Spousal Abuser Prosecution Program; Identity Theft Investigation/ Prosecution Team; Anti-Gang Program; Homeland Security; Habitual Offender Project; Pier Offender Prosecution Program; Public Resource Code Prosecutions; Increased Monitoring of Sex Registrants and Assistance to SEA Laboratory in Redondo Beach. Since 1994 the Redondo Beach City Prosecutor's Office has strongly supported the concepts of Community Based Policing and Community Prosecution Programs. A core value of the office is that members of the community should set the focus on what areas of public safety need to be improved.

J.6. PS20-1689 DISCUSSION OF RECENT LAW ENFORCEMENT EVENTS/CRIME RECAP The Redondo Beach Police Department provides a high quality of service to the residents and community members of Redondo Beach. To insure the Police Department keeps the community abreast of criminal activity, the Police Department publishes a weekly review of significant events of interest. Due to the nature of criminal investigations certain events are excluded to prevent the compromise of ongoing investigations.

J.7. PS20-1690 DISCUSSION OF COMMUNITY POLICING EVENTS In 1994 the Redondo Beach Police Department implemented Community Oriented Policing and continues to pursue the community policing concept. Currently two Police Officers are assigned full time to the Community Policing Unit. The Community Policing Unit is responsible for Neighborhood Watch, Crime Prevention, Volunteers in Policing (VIPs), Graffiti Abatement, School Resource Officer - Elementary and Middle School and School Resource Officer - High School.

J.8. PS20-1691 VOLUNTEERS IN POLICING REPORT The Volunteers in Policing (VIP) program was established in 1994, as part of the community based policing philosophy. The goal of the Police Department is to create a partnership with members of the community who can assist us with specific law enforcement tasks. The duties of the Volunteers In Patrol (VIP's) include vacation checks, issuing citations for Disabled Parking violations, graffiti reporting and documentation, assisting with traffic control at special events, park/school patrols, disaster response and patrol of the South Bay Galleria.
