Yesterday was the 3-year anniversary of the California Coastal Commission’s certification of resident-driven Measure C. A first in their history, the Commission made no changes to the Citizen Initiative that qualified for the ballot. Over 200 residents spoke publicly at the two-day meeting held in Redondo Beach, with the overwhelming majority imploring the Commission to uphold and certify Measure C.
Here’s a link to the entire event and testimony if anyone is interested in reviewing it:

Despite Measure C winning at the ballot box in every District in the City, some elected officials showed up to beg the Commission to reject Measure C. One waved what he claimed was falling concrete from the parking structure as his basis for the Commission to accept the fatally-flawed, City Staff report with which the Commission ultimately found “substantial issue,” agreeing instead, with the grass-roots citizen-led Measure C.
The District 4 Council Member at that time, and Council Member Horvath didn’t bother attending to advocate on behalf of their constituents who disagreed with them. They had both campaigned against Measure C, in favor of the flawed and subsequently-proven illegal project that was finally withdrawn. Notably, Council Member Emdee not only showed up, but spoke out against the voting-majority in her District, asking the Commission to reject Measure C.
Litigation with the developer stalled our progress of harbor development due to the previous Council's non-resident centric and grossly premature decisions that have cost our City tens of millions of dollars. Today, with better leadership now in place, we’re finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you Mr. Mayor and District 1, 2 and 4 Council Members! We look forward to the District 3 and 5 Council Members abandonment of outside, special interest groups, in favor of our quality of life, too!

I saw several comments from the prior Council meeting calling for the resignation of CM Obagi. Clearly as a layman, and absent any action on the Bar Complaint, I am not in a position to sit in judgement, nor do I believe that others are at this time. I recommend that we all allow the process to play out and provide us with a full and adequate record before considering any further actions.
