P.2. 21-2714 DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION TO APPROVE SENDING A LETTER IN SUPPORT TO AB 43, WHICH WOULD GRANT THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (CALTRANS) AND LOCAL AUTHORITIES GREATER FLEXIBILITY IN SETTING SPEED LIMITS BASED ON RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE ZERO TRAFFIC FATALITY TASK FORCE
I support the city having the flexibility in setting its own speed limits. At 182nd between Inglewood and the tracks the current 25 mile per hour speed limit must remain in place indefinitely. Anything over that is dangerous due to residences, driveways, schools, the cemetery and rail crossing. Drivers are way too comfortable speeding on this block but that doesn't mean the speed limit should be increased. Let's keep control of this in our cities hands for the safety of its citizens and property.
As traffic has increased on our local streets, so has the speed of the vehicles that utilize our streets. We should have local control over setting speed limits so that we can better protect families and neighborhoods.
