I respectfully request that more dog specific amenities be added to our city. We need more spaces for dogs to socialize and get exercise.
Also very important is that the city might please consider in the parks and rec dept, offerings for dog training classes. Right now the only option is expensive retail dog training, which is why you see so many unsocialized dogs with unsavvy owners.
Something else to consider is a section of beach, a place where it isn't occupied by too many crowds pf people, like El Segundo, Dockweiler or El Porto. It could work as a Beach Cities collaborative effort.
I write to you out of concern for our trees, our air, our oceans, and finally, our veterans.
The council endorsed firework show completely goes against everything this council purports to stand for. You banned the use of leaf blowers because of the air pollution and noise, yet you willingly blast pyrotechnics into the sky over our beautiful pacific ocean. All in the name of what? Patriotism? This past weekend the City of Redondo Beach City Council senselessly polluted our community.
Studies have shown that as a national average, culled from 315 different testing sites, Independence Day fireworks introduce 42 percent more pollutants into the air than are found on a normal day. Furthermore "although the heavy metals in fireworks experience a temporary physical change, the metal salts and explosives in the fireworks undergo chemical changes by combining with oxygen (combustion). This chemical reaction releases smoke and gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen, and these are some of the primary greenhouse gases responsible for climate change. During the explosion, these metal salts do not ‘burn up’. They are still metal atoms, and many of them are end up as aerosols that poison the air, the water and the soil. When inhaled or ingested, these metals can cause a huge variety of short- and long-term reactions, ranging from vomiting, diarrhea or asthma attacks, to kidney disease, cardiotoxic effects and a variety of cancers" Is this what you want for your city? Do you want your neighbors to have diarrhea?
This council not only endorsed a pollution explosion, but you have harmed our veterans experiencing PTSD. Our veterans deserve more respect than this council has given them.
Finally, I find it curious that this council approved a firework show put on by a former council member at the south end. Pollute our water and skies and torture our veterans if it benefits those who are in the council's pocket. I thought cronyism was no longer in fashion. I suppose some things never change in Redondo.
