Dear Mayor, City Council Members and City Staff,
I am writing to support that you take immediate action at tonight's meeting to amend the current Redondo Beach Municipal Code regulating sidewalk vending. The City needs a Code that details regulations on this activity and is in compliance with Senate Bill 946 that took effect in January 2019. The Cities of Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Torrance have added ordinances on sidewalk vending that address public safety concerns with specific regulations/restrictions that the City of Redondo Beach really needs to address in this update.
The City of Redondo Beach has areas like our Farmer's Markets, our bike paths, the public beach, the Pier and Harbor where restricting street vending is important. The Council needs to also consider that the majority of our residential streets have very narrow sidewalks, over parked conditions and some even have permit parking. Pedestrians including the disabled need safe paths to walk their neighborhoods. Police, Fire and Emergency Medical personnel need access to all sidewalks and not be blocked by vending.
Please refer to attachments you received with this Agenda item and note all the details in the ordinances from Torrance, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach. Please amend our Code tonight so street vending regulations will be complete and updated in time for the busy summer season.
    Thanks you.
