Congratulations to newly re-elected Mayor Brand, Councilmember Nehrenheim, Councilmember Loewenstein and City Attorney Mike Webb. Over the next 4 years you have the time to see through your priorities and continue to advocate for the residents of Redondo Beach. Congratulations to city attorney Mike Webb on your re-election to another term protecting the city.
For city council member Gran thank you for your service to the city and the residents of District 4. It has been a pleasure getting to know and interact with you and I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. I am sure you will continue to do great things.
To newly elected city councilmember Obagi congratulations on your your well earned victory and election to represent District 4. I look forward to your contributions to the city and the fresh perspective on the council.
Best of luck to all of you and know that the residents of Redondo Beach are looking to you all and counting on you to do what is right for the city.
I’d like to thank all the candidates for their participation in the March 2nd election and congratulations to those who’s ideas resonated in the marketplace of our political debate.
I was honored to receive 8% of the vote which equated to $1.17 per vote (I only spent $1300 on the candidate statement) as opposed to others spending $3-5 a vote and more. My main message is that we can have political campaigns without the influence of money. I’m sure all the candidates would agree they would rather be working on solving the issues facing their constituents than dealing with the process of raising campaign money, documentation relating to campaign money, and responding to charges from the opposition of illicit use of campaign money. Continue to work to get money out of our politics and, in the near term, improve the transparency of campaign finance.
Many issues deserve your attention. Here are a couple-
Aligning our elections- We should align our elections. SB 415 was well intentioned. 43K Redondo residents voted in the Nov. 2020 national election but only 14K voted in our city election on March 2, 2021. If we don’t align our elections, we are disenfranchising the majority of Redondo Beach voters. Please find a path forward to align our elections.
Cannabis- In 2016, 65% of Redondo Beach voters approved Prop. 64 (The Adult Use of Marijuana Act). In January 2018, cities all around us licensed dispensaries which are experiencing relatively few negative affects while generating substantial revenues. Our city could use this cannabis generated revenue. Please license a couple cannabis dispensaries so we may implement the will of the people.
Thank you all for your service to our city, I’ve interacted with all of you and I believe you all want what is best for our city. You all understand the honor the voters have bestowed upon you and the responsibility you shoulder relating to public safety and managing sacred tax payer money. Please continue to respect each others views and promote a collegial environment even when discussing our most contentious issues. Your words and actions influence many.
I wish the Mayor and the City Council much success and good health.
