We have an important election in Redondo Beach with very clear choices.
If you want to ensure we continue to challenge state-imposed new housing RHNA numbers and effectively fight Sacramento control over our local land use, vote to re-elect Mayor Bill Brand, re-elect District 1 Council Member Nils Nehrenheim, re-elect District 2 Council Member Todd Loewenstein and elect Zein Obagi, Jr. for District 4 City Council. They will courageously battle against over-densification and the increased traffic, congestion and structural deficit it brings.
If you want elected officials with demonstrated expertise in bringing us creative, exciting forms of new revenue and entertainment such as Beach Life Festival, Outdoor Dining, and skate parks, while preserving our beach-culture environment, vote for Mayor Brand, Council Member Nehrenheim, Council Member Loewenstein and Zein Obagi for City Council. They will champion preservation and enhanced recreational use of every inch of open space.
If you want financial transparency, accountability, copious evaluation and scrutiny of how and where we spend taxpayer dollars, Brand, Nehrenheim, Loewenstein and Obagi are YOUR kind of City Hall peeps! They will not cater to outdated policies or Good Old Boys connections that keep us entrenched in vendor-relationships that have long overstayed their purpose for our City.
Bill, Nils, Todd and Zein listen intently to residents. They won’t sell us out to deep-pockets developers or special-interest groups at the expense of our City and quality of life.
If you want innovation, creativity, intelligence, persistence, competence, honesty and government of, by and for the people, your choices are clear. Brand, Nehrenheim, Loewenstein and Obagi!
The shills who are being used by a billion-dollar corporation to divide and conquer the community and to leave the spoils to the billion-dollar corporation, are back again -no thank you!
Let us not forget the awesome wins that Mayor Bill Brand and Councilpersons Nils Nehrenheim and Todd Loewenstein have won: They brought us beachlife festival, stopped lawsuits in their tracks, won back our Harbor from the billion-dollar corporation, made our streets safer, paved our roads and stood up for our Fire Department.
Of course, we can credit the City Attorney Mike Webb for a complete lack of ability to properly identify the risk on January 31st 2017: when asked about signing the contract that has left the City in lawsuit alley he replied “it’s up to the Council to decide”. He should have said as a separately elected body the actual truth: Signing this lawsuit can lead to years of lawsuits and millions of lost tax dollars and opportunities. Not signing the contract leaves absolutely no risk!
So, there we have it, Vote Harden Sooper!
A vote for Mayor Bill, Councilpersons Nils Nehrenheim and Todd Loewenstein is a vote for a bright future!
I wanted to express my appreciation to Redondo Beach City Staff Workers for all of their diligent work to keep our parks open, clean and functioning for our community members during this time of pandemic. Even with reduced staff, I've City crews working tirelessly to keep our parks operable, clean and open to our communities, and while they may not hear it often, I appreciate everything done behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly. Over these years as I've served with the Recreation & Parks Commission, and have seen how open staff have been to our concerns. I have appreciated the support I've had from Community Services Directors, John La Rock and (interim) Loire Koike, as well as from Michael Kline and Alberto Allejandre on the Public Works side.
As I have served as the President of the South Bay Parkland Conservancy (SBPC), we have been able to restore native habitat at Hopkins Wilderness Park and engage with thousands of our community members over the years. I can say that we are truly making a difference. Whether it's planting trees, establishing native habitat, improving and expanding trails, or building community gardens, throughout the region, SBPC is working to fill the gaps that our community members need. While SBPC is not a political organization, nor does it support political candidates or campaigns, it does, however, support causes, community activists, and organizations fighting together to preserve what little open space we have left. As we move forward in 2021, I look forward to the opportunities that the City Council has to expand and improve our parkland resources with needed amenities, like community gardens.
HAPPY FAT TUESDAY CITY COUNCIL!! Today, is February 16, 2021, it is still Black History Month, it is not too late to make Black History and do the right thing by restoring the 2nd ANNUAL MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. CELEBRATION video to the City of Redondo Beach Website.
Do Black Lives Matter in Redondo Beach? How about, blue lives, do they matter in Redondo Beach? How about Women’s Rights, do they matter in Redondo Beach? And what about Freedom of Speech, does Freedom of Speech matter in Redondo Beach?
The Redondo Beach Police Department efforts in public outreach to the black community should be applauded and awarded, not disrespected and censored.
A resident posted on social media about a possible campaign finance violation of our local ordinance(s) for John Gran was submitted several weeks ago but she has not heard any details of timeline of process from the City Clerk or City Attorney. Other than acknowledging receipt of the possible violation by Mr. Gran she, apparently, has not heard anything at all from the City of Redondo Beach. Beyond an interesting conundrum for Mr. Webb to investigate John Gran, who he has endorsed, some investigative entity should respond to this resident. Or the item should be referred out of Redondo Beach for investigation to avoid any perceived conflicts of interest having an elected City Attorney investigate a City Councilman he endorsed or have his staff have to investigate a Councilman they know he is supporting.
Could the City Clerk be directed to please find a way to prevent fake people from commenting on our City's agenda? "Lepsa Smith" and now "Kat Everdeen" are people from who knows where, hiding behind fake names so they can anonymously raise false facts and fake issues. These people are mocking our local democratic process. I'm sure we can find a way to authenticate residency, while protecting privacy, prior to allowing comment. Thank you.
I wanted to bring up the fact that Brad Waller has blatantly copied the current councilman Christian Horvath's ballet statement. This is a very disturbing issue for our city. Brad Waller is currently a representative on the school board and should be vehemently opposed to this behavior. What are we teaching our children? Copying someone else’s work is totally acceptable especially in local government? What other unacceptable actions will Brad Waller engage in as a council-member? He could not even write his own ballet statement to run for city council. This means he truly does not care nor respect our residents or the city. Please see the strong comparison of Brad Waller to Melania Trump and her attempt to steal elements of Michelle Obamas 2008 speech as total disrespect for our city and residents. I strongly urge the residents of South Redondo Beach to condone this misleading inappropriate behavior and not to vote for Brad “Copycat” Waller.
