N.2. 20-1884 DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING APPROVAL OF A SUCCESSOR MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH THE REDONDO BEACH CITY EMPLOYEES' ASSOCIATION FROM JANUARY 1, 2021 THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2023
ADOPT BY TITLE ONLY RESOLUTION NO. CC-2101-002, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDONDO BEACH, CALIFORNIA, ADOPTING A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE CITY OF REDONDO BEACH AND THE REDONDO BEACH CITY EMPLOYEES' ASSOCIATION FROM JANUARY 1, 2021 THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2023;
ADOPT BY 4/5 VOTE AND BY TITLE ONLY RESOLUTION NO. CC-2101-003, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDONDO BEACH, CALIFORNIA, APPROPRIATING $102,965 FROM THE UNASSIGNED GENERAL FUND BALANCE FOR THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN THE CITY OF REDONDO BEACH AND THE REDONDO BEACH CITY EMPLOYEES' ASSOCIATION
It is concerning to me that the City of Redondo Beach has failed to give a significant base pay raise to the members of the associations up for discussion today. It is insulting that the “pay raise” being given to these employees is $500 spread across 12 months. That is an additional $10.41 a week. A measly $0.26 per hour (for those working 40 hours a week). The City of Redondo MUST do better. Redondo was able to give both Fire and Police 4% base pay bumps this year alone, but they are unable to do the same for other employees?
Council members, I urge you to evaluate how you value labor in your City. Your treatment of employees who are not fire or police will directly impact how your City is run. These employees are the backbone of the City. If the City fails to make a significant adjustment to the base pay, your employees will know exactly how their labor is valued and the City will suffer for it.
