Seriously in opposition of the pallet home project as a gratuitous temporary bandaid for a much more pervasive problem. To make matters worse you have egregiously marginalized and alienated your constituents in the El Nido area, and those businesses on Kingsdale. I happen to know they are EXTREMELY shocked that this got slid past them through the back door. Businesses at the waterfront got to say their piece but the dentist, dr's office, retail, dining AND Kingsdale residents were kept in the dark. This project got voted on behind their backs and the stab hurts. THAT ALONE IS SHOCKING.
It is my opinion that the offerings for these people in that location is inhumane. For all of the "compassionate" rhetoric, I would hope that a real roof, warmth and bathrooms would be provided in the form of motel rooms with the funds allotted. To put them in that dirty lot with no amenities next to a massive construction project is just shameful. The whole thing is shameful, the way you are treating El Nido homeowners is pretty disgusting. We are not happy.
Do not condescend us by using such weak narratives and disrespectful rhetoric. I am blown away.
I understand that there is a challenge for the City of Redondo Beach to enforce some of the current Municipal Codes during the pandemic. I have sent e-mails to some of you and hope to hear back on plans to move toward better enforcement, especially on a code, No Smoking in Public Places, that was added in 2019 and effects public health and safety.
One step in enforcement could be posting of signs in the City's business districts and in high density neighborhoods where many residents live in apartments or condominiums that have indoor restrictions. Another idea is to do some community outreach online on the City web site, via social media or other publications.
As a reminder - here is the summary of the No Smoking in Public code:
5-9.102 Prohibition of smoking.
(a) Except as otherwise provided by this chapter or by State or Federal law, smoking is prohibited in the following locations:
(1) Public places;
(2) The interior of places of employment, including those regulated by California Labor Code Section 6404.5;
(3) Any area within twenty (20′) feet of any door, window, opening, or vent, into a public place.
(b) Smoking is permitted in the following locations within the City, unless otherwise provided by State or Federal law or this Code:
(1) Private residential property, other than those used as a child-care or health- care facility subject to State licensing requirements;
(2) Within a moving vehicle;
(3) As provided in Section 5-9.105.
(c) No person shall dispose of any smoking waste, including, but not limited to, any part of a cigarette, cigar, pipe, or tobacco product, in an area in which smoking is prohibited by this chapter or other law, except in specific receptacles designated by the City for smoking waste. (§ 2, Ord. 3193 c.s., eff. November 14, 2019)
Thank you for your attention to this issue.

I have been closely listening in on your discussions regarding the temporary pallet shelters and I can’t stress enough on behalf of my community in District 4 how disheartening it was to hear you not only reject any and all South Redondo locations but reject them as BACK-UPS while the Kingsdale site is being prepped. If that isn’t proof in itself that you don’t want it anywhere near you let alone near you for a bit of time, I don’t know what is. Time and time again you defended Sea Lab, Seaside Lagoon, Moonstone Park, Harbor and hotels near the Harbor for a multitude of reasons which always stem back to the root issue in which you don’t want the business interests in those areas to have unintended consequences but couldn’t share those similar and extremely valid concerns for the Kingsdale site. I will also add to the record South Redondo concerns are just as valid and not any less important but certainly not more important. Mr. Mayor, you have been elected to represent all of Redondo, not just one side of town. I keep on hearing time and time again, this is not a South vs North Redondo issue, you have blatantly showed that is by your rhetoric and constant defense of businesses in the Harbor which mirror District 4’s concerns and have yet to hear you show any sort of empathy to constituents of that area other than “its close to Ralphs, its close to public transit, it’s the best pick”. It is the best pick to you, because you do not have interests in that area.
It is all said and done and we can only hope for the best, but your tone deaf response and favoritism will be remembered.
