H.9. 20-1225 ADOPT BY TITLE ONLY ORDINANCE NO. O-3204-20, AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDONDO BEACH, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING TITLE 4, CHAPTER 35 OF THE REDONDO BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE TO ALLOW DOGS IN SPECIFIED PARKS UNDER IMPOSED CONDITIONS. FOR SECOND READING AND ADOPTION.
I strongly support this ordinance. It provides a reasonable way to allow residents to enjoy parks with their dogs while maintaining protection for places where their presence would be inappropriate, such as playground areas.
I’m so sorry that Lesli feels the way she does even though she’s a dog owner. I’ve lived in Redondo Beach since 1978 and have had a dog most of those years. I love walking in my neighborhood but I feel it’s ridiculous that I have to avoid certain grassy areas because they are Redondo beach parks or Parkette. I would love to sit on the grass with my dog and watch my grandchildren play but I’ve never been able to do that. I’m a responsible dog owner who always cleans up after my dog and after those of others less responsible. I am hoping that others will speak up and support this agenda item of allowing our beloved dogs to play, leashed, in specified Redondo Beach areas. The dog park is fine and I utilize It often but I have to drive there not walk there. Please committee, consider making Redondo Beach as dog friendly as our neighboring cities are. Thank you.
As a long time dog owner and almost 20 year resident of Redondo Beach, I am tired of irresponsible dog owners letting their dogs do whatever they want. There are already dogs in our parks. I walk by Vincent park almost every day, usually there’s a dog or two running loose in the park and in Czuleger park, the people who live on both sides treat the park as if it is their own personal dog park. My dogs are always obedience trained and walked on a 6 foot leash. I am tired of being accosted by dogs on those retractable leashes that are much longer than 6 feet, or dogs that run up because they are not leashed. And don’t get me started about the dog poop, it seems that many people forget to carry bags with them and just leave the poop on the ground. Or, they bag the poop and then leave the bag lying on the ground. We have laws that currently cover these situations, and they are not enforced. I’m not even sure who is supposed to enforce the laws regarding dogs. It seems trivial for the police or animal control to have to deal with this. But during this time of pandemic, I don’t really want to confront anyone about their dogs behavior. People are on edge and cranky! We have a dog park and there are several dog beaches nearby. Let’s leave the parks for kids and families, leave the dogs at home.
