Hi City Councilmembers and Mayor Brand - the greatest mayor in the history of the City of Redondo Beach. Before I get started, bravo to Coucnilmember Nehrenheim and staff on your quick work in Riviera village. Amazing what you the council can do when you have a will to act.

We just watched so many qualified people step up to serve on the commissions of this City. It's really encouraging to see how many of our neighbors are willing to step up, invest their time, effort and thought to enrich our community - at a challenging time for everybody at that.

But, there is something about these last few City Council that is gravely discouraging - and its just not Laura Emdee campaigning for leafblower exemptions for Northup Grummen and other 6 acre property owners so she can fill her coffers for her future campaign for Mayor.

Since the the death of George Floyd, anybody without their head out of the sand has learned that blacks in America have a different experience than white folks here. If you do not know what I am talking about - read "I am George Floyd, except I can breathe" by Dean Marcus Cole of Notre Dame Law School.

So with all these fresh, qualified recruits stepping up to serve on commissions - what are you all doing to send the message that Redondo is the South Bay city most dedicated to racial equality; where black folks are not going to have the cops called on them for merely being black in public, or taking a night stroll; where black-owned businesses are cherished as valuable; where the City council puts together a task force to understand the black experience in Redondo, and how it can be made better.

We should be looking at the improvements or changes can be made to enhance the experience of people of color in this city. And, the fact that, as far as our equality-loving residents can see, yall have really done nothing to respond to this moment in history as the leaders that I know some of yall can be. So I ask you all - the leaders of Redondo - what will you do to protect and enhance racial equality in Redondo? Will you put together a volunteer commission or task force? You dont need to decide today. Ill be back.
