I want to make it known that we have had an increasing amount of franchises and corporations continue to be built up in Redondo, more specifically the notion of having not one, but two corporate coffee companies within less than a mile apart of each other. Furthermore, many of these franchises/ corporations of fast food are built along the Artesia corridor in north Redondo. is this not the same corridor in which the city hopes to build up in its profile? or are we going to consider pushing the McDonaldization of our community even further? With this notion to consider adding an additional coffee shop with drive-in access would suggest that we are not cognizant of a layer of nuanced planning issues tied to this. there is already a Starbucks off
Hawthorne and Artesia boulevard, there is also a Starbucks inside the galleria mall directly across from the one located on the corner of Hawthorne and Artesia. While the planning division of Redondo continues to approve these corporate franchises and builds we see the deteriorating value of North Redondo. As someone who has lived here as a child and now an adult, I vehemently stand against the monopolization of the convenient coffeeshop and corporate franchises of fast-food chains to expand anywhere else in Redondo. Another layer often gone unlocked is that by adding another corporation of fast-food franchises, the city, and planning division continue to leave the backdoor of recoverable finances in tax revenue when you allow yet another franchise or corporation into our already financially bleeding city. close the back loop of this by not allowing another franchise. I understand the want and need for revenue, especially at a time like this, however, the city and elected officials need to consider thinking more critically not just based on their tax revenue source but rather the quality of life we hope to achieve while being able to encourage and produce local entreupreuner businesses. I SAY NO TO YET ANOTHER FRANCHISE!
