As a constituent living near Prospect Ave and Torrance Blvd, I would like to share with the commission about a community campaign to support a safer Prospect Ave. This commission has discussed several items related to traffic and safety on the Prospect Ave Corridor. Residents have brought concerns about truck traffic, speeding, and pedestrian safety issues. You are also hearing items tonight related to safety enhancements on the Prospect Frontage Road as well as neighbor concerns about noise. Prospect Ave is included on the South Bay Bicycle Master Plan as a route for protected Class IV bike lanes. Many of our students now ride e-bikes to school and we should provide them with safe infrastructure to get to school. Prospect Ave connects at least 11 schools with 7,000 students. Traffic collisions occur frequently on Prospect, with recent crashes on Prospect and Torrance.

A coalition of local organizations and residents is asking the city council to commission a corridor study for improved roadway configurations on Prospect Ave, including exploring Class IV bike lanes. We are hoping the city can apply for grant funds or fund the study in a future budget. I encourage the commission and residents to read the proposal and consider signing on: https://actionnetwork.org/petitions/prospect-ave-protected-bike-lanes/

Having lived at 523 N. Prospect Ave for the last 49 years, I have noticed the increased lack of protection from noise and safety on our street. We NEED a safety and noise barrier on the top of the median between the frontage road and main Prospect avenue. A 6 to 8 foot wall would be a good answer for the safety of out street.
