On 4-3-25 the LA Times published its 4th article detailing the failure of the CA Dept of Cannabis Control (DCC) to test and confirm safe commercial cannabis supply. The City of Santa Cruz Board of Supervisors unanimously declared that this failure is a "public health emergency" and adopted a resolution stating this.

I once again urge the city council to pause all cannabis activities. Retail cannabis normalizes and increases youth use commercial supplies are clearly not safe.
Currently $1.3 billion is owed in back taxes by the cannabis industry (3 tax years) and these funds pay for Tier 3 drug education and addiction support.
The incoming city council should have the opportunity to review the safety and economic data and make a decision based on fact and data and importantly the 75% of residents who voted "no" to retail cannabis via Measure E in 2022.
